Ron DeSantis Drops Out of the GOP Primary
Florida governor Ron DeSantis once seen as the main contender to challenge former president Trump for the Republican presidential nomination has dropped out of the race. Due to the abysmal polling in recent months alongside weak Iowa caucus results. Furthermore, early states New Hampshire and South Carolina vital to making a name for yourself had especially horrible polling for the governor. The suspension of the DeSantis campaign leaves 10% or so up for grabs, most prone to go to Donald J. Trump due to similar policies in many aspects. This leaves former UN ambassador and South Carolina governor, Nikki Haley as the last remaining contender against Mr Trump. Her campaign has long tried to portray this primary as a 2 person race - now it is. However, Ms Haley's clear disadvantage in the polls suggests difficulties in winning the nomination.
New Hampshire GOP Primary Clear
Mr Trump won the GOP primary in New Hampshire by double digits, however, his main contender Nikki Haley managed to outperform polls and her supporters were thrilled at the prospects of a candidate only 10% or so away from the former president. Ms Haley alone is a much larger threat to Mr Trump than a fractured field like in 2016. The former governor's clear failure to win urban votes in Nashua and Manchester contributed to her resounding loss, many dubbed this primary Ms Haley's last stand. She did not, her upset victory in 2010 for South Carolina governor by the GOP is used as proof that she is not out of this race yet. The next state in the GOP primary is South Carolina, her last last stand. Loss in South Carolina is not an option for the Haley campaign, and so was New Hampshire. Mr Trump on the other hand did great exceeding polling slightly and winning a majority of the votes alongside the delegates.
